To activate your account and start benefiting from the inbuilt VRM lookup service you will need to apply for a MotorSpecs account. Unlike other accounts GaraBase customers do not need to sign up for a monthly subscription.

Instead lookup credits can be purchased on a 'Pay as You Go' basis. They cost 15p each and the minimum purchase is £45 for 300 lookups. To get your access credentials please follow the steps below.

Step 1. Sign up for a free account.

You start this process by entering your email address on the home page at

Step 2. Complete the Application

  • Enter your Name, Phone number and Company Name.

  • Under the 'How can we help' dropdown select the Vehicle Identity by VRM Lookup service and the MOT Expiry date by VRM Lookup.

  • In the text box underneath please say that you need it for your Garagebase software.

  • Click 'Get Started Now'.

Step 3. Approve Your Service Agreement

Once your application has been received we will send you a service agreement on our electronic signing platform - Signnow. This usually takes between 12 and 24 hours. You will receive an email with a button inviting you to click through and approve the agreement. When this is done your account will be set up.

Note: Whilst your account will be set up, you will need to contact our accounts department by email at indicating how many lookups you wish to purchase. You will receive an invoice and a link to make an online payment.

Step 3. Activate Your Account

Once your approved service agreement has been received and your payment received we will set up your account. This takes between 12 and 24 hours and will trigger an activation email directly to the email you provide above.

To activate your account and obtain your MotorSpecs credentials please follow the steps outline in this article and then continue with step 4.

Step 4. Enter your Account Details on GarageBase

Now that you have your client ID and client secret you're ready to activate these in Garagebase. To do this please;

  • Open Garagebase and go to Accounts Manager – Master Setup – Company details – VRM Lookup (bottom of screen)

  • Enter the details in the green boxes as shown in red below.

And that's it. You're VRM service should now be up and running!
