FAQ
How long does the test take?
How long does the test take?
The AVILOO FLASH Test takes about 3 minutes to complete and be sent to you by email and communicated back to your MotorCheck report.
Do I need to drive the car during the test?
Do I need to drive the car during the test?
No, the vehicle does not need to be driven. Just ensure the vehicle is in Ready Mode (ignition ON for electric cars).
Can I run the test on any vehicle?
Can I run the test on any vehicle?
The AVILOO FLASH Test is compatible with most electric and hybrid vehicles. Refer to the AVILOO database to check if your vehicle is supported.
Can I use the AVILOO Box for other purposes?
Can I use the AVILOO Box for other purposes?
No, the AVILOO Box is specifically designed for battery diagnostics and should only be used for that purpose.
Do I need to charge the vehicle during the test?
Do I need to charge the vehicle during the test?
No, you should NOT charge or discharge the vehicle’s battery during the test. Just ensure the vehicle is ready to be tested with at least 5% charge in the battery.
Why did my AVILOO FLASH Test fail with the message "Further external diagnostic device was detected"?
Why did my AVILOO FLASH Test fail with the message "Further external diagnostic device was detected"?
The AVILOO FLASH Test cannot proceed if another diagnostic device is connected to the vehicle at the same time. The test relies on establishing a clean and exclusive communication link between the AVILOO Box and your vehicle’s onboard systems via the OBD-II port.
What causes this error?
If your vehicle has any other OBD-connected device active—such as:
Telematics units
Fleet management hardware
Insurance tracking devices
Dealer diagnostic tools
Bluetooth OBD dongles (e.g. for mobile apps)
…then the AVILOO Box cannot gain the required exclusive access to perform the test.
What should I do?
Switch off the ignition and disconnect all non-AVILOO diagnostic devices from the OBD-II port.
Ensure the AVILOO Box is the only device connected.
Reconnect power to the AVILOO Box.
Restart the FLASH Test via the MotorCheck portal or your AVILOO interface.
Once the conflicting device is removed, the AVILOO system will be able to communicate with the car without interruption.
Example Case:
Vehicle: Jaguar I-Pace – 90.2 kWh
VIN: SADHA2A1XL160####
AVILOO Box Serial: AB-25-02-000###
Issue: FLASH Test failed due to the detection of an external diagnostic device.

Still having trouble?
If you've removed all devices and the test still won’t start, contact AVILOO Support or your platform representative with your VIN and Box Serial Number.
How is the AVILOO Certificate different from a basic SoH readout tool?
How is the AVILOO Certificate different from a basic SoH readout tool?
The SoH value read from the battery management system (BMS) is based on manufacturer-specific algorithms and may significantly deviate from the battery’s actual condition – it can be either overstated or understated. In contrast, the AVILOO Certificate provides an independent, objective assessment of battery health based on comprehensive technical analysis. It not only determines the real SoH but also checks for potential defects and anomalies, resulting in a holistic evaluation of the high-voltage battery’s functionality and safety.
How can I verify if a printed certificate is authentic?
How can I verify if a printed certificate is authentic?
The QR code on the printed AVILOO Battery Certificate links directly to the digital original on the AVILOO website. By comparing the digital and printed data, you can clearly verify the authenticity of the certificate.
Can large vehicle fleets also be tested and analyzed?
Can large vehicle fleets also be tested and analyzed?
Yes – the AVILOO FLASH Test is scalable and ideally suited for fleets, end-of-lease vehicles, and used car inventories. For larger volumes, we offer custom processes, logistics solutions, and reporting – including dashboard overviews and API integration.
How does the AVILOO Certificate affect a vehicle’s residual value?
How does the AVILOO Certificate affect a vehicle’s residual value?
An independent battery certificate offers objective assurance about the condition of the vehicle’s most critical component – the battery. Studies and market data show that vehicles with documented battery health achieve higher resale prices and sell faster, especially EVs with strong SoH ratings.
Can I integrate the AVILOO Certificate directly into my vehicle listings or platform?
Can I integrate the AVILOO Certificate directly into my vehicle listings or platform?
Yes – the AVILOO Battery Certificate can be seamlessly integrated via API into vehicle marketplaces, sales platforms, or internal remarketing systems. This allows the battery condition to be displayed directly in the listing – providing more transparency, trust, and higher closing rates.

I accidentally ran multiple tests on the same vehicle and received several reports. Do I have to pay for all of them?
I accidentally ran multiple tests on the same vehicle and received several reports. Do I have to pay for all of them?
No. Regardless of the reason, if multiple tests are conducted on the same vehicle within two hours, only one test is charged per vehicle. You will receive a single invoice for the relevant VIN.
How much effort does the FLASH Test require during day-to-day operations?
How much effort does the FLASH Test require during day-to-day operations?
The AVILOO FLASH Test is designed as a plug-and-play solution and can be seamlessly integrated into existing workflows. Installation takes just a few minutes, after which the test runs in the background during normal vehicle operation.

How do I know when a software update has finished successfully?
How do I know when a software update has finished successfully?
There is no light, sound, or on-device message that confirms a software update has completed — and that is by design. The Box's LEDs only ever show test and connection status, never software status, so there is no "update complete" indicator to look out for.
The Box keeps itself up to date automatically, over the air, whenever it is connected to mains power. As long as you follow the recommended practice of leaving it plugged in between jobs, it will keep itself current in the background without any action from you.
No. That light combination is completely normal and has nothing to do with software updates:
Solid red means the Box is not currently connected to a vehicle.
Flashing amber means the Box is searching for a vehicle.
If you see solid red and flashing amber while the Box is sitting idle or trying to connect, the Box is simply waiting for or looking for a vehicle. It is not a sign of a failed update.
Is there any light I should be worried about for updates?
Is there any light I should be worried about for updates?
The one light worth knowing about is a blue light while the Box is plugged into mains power. This indicates poor signal reception, which means the Box cannot download an update at that moment. If you see this, move the Box to a location with better mobile/network reception while it is on charge, and leave it plugged in so it can update once reception improves.
How does the Box stay up to date?
How does the Box stay up to date?
Updates are delivered over the air and install automatically whenever the Box is connected to mains power. We recommend leaving the Box plugged in between jobs. Do that and it will always be running the latest software — there is nothing you need to trigger or confirm manually.
If my software is out of date, can I still run a test?
If my software is out of date, can I still run a test?
Yes. A Box can still complete a test even if it is not running the very latest software, so a successful test on its own is not a guarantee that the software is fully up to date. Software updates are usually released to add support for specific vehicle models or to fix issues with particular vehicles — so an update most often matters when a specific model that previously couldn't be tested becomes testable after the update. For everyday use, simply keeping the Box on charge between jobs is all that's needed to stay current.
How can I be 100% certain my Box is up to date?
How can I be 100% certain my Box is up to date?
If you want definitive confirmation, contact support and we can check your device's exact software status directly in the AVILOO system. This is the only way to verify the software version with certainty, as the Box itself does not display it.
