Activating Your MotorSpecs Account

A step by step guide demonstrating how you activate your MotorSpecs Account and obtain your Client User ID and Secret.

Welcome to MotorSpecs

If you're reading this article it's likely that you've just been added as the first user to a new account on MotorSpecs, the API application that powers millions of VRM related transactions across the UK (including our sister service MotorCheck).

Follow the steps below to activate your account and you'll be able to make queries direct to the MotorSpecs staging service from your own server or the downloadable Postman collection here.

Step 1 - Validate your Email Address & Assign a Password

To do this you'll need to click through on an activation link that you will have received via email and assign a password to your account.

You'll need to do this within 24 hours of receiving the email or the authentication token will expire (don't worry if this happens, just drop drop us an email (info@motorspecs.co.uk) and we'll resend a new link). 

To do this you simply click the 'Validate Button' on the MotorSpecs website...

...and create a 'Password'.

Now just click the Save button and your account will have been validated. You'll be redirected to the MotorSpecs Login page.

Step 2 - Activate the Account

Now that your account has been validated you can login and Activate it.

Once logged in, you'll see an activation link on the right hand side of your dashboard. Click the link and take careful note of the Client ID and Secret that appears on the next screen. 

IMPORTANT NOTE

You won't see the secret again after this point. Be sure to copy it somewhere safe.

Complete the Activation by clicking the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

And that's it your MotorSpecs account is now up and running.
